Ascension Academy is a nondenominational, not-for-profit, educational institution whose purpose and character are primarily religious. Consistent with Ascension Academy’s organizational documents, the “primary duty” of the individual who holds the Minister of Faith-Centered Education position is to implement an educational curriculum directed toward the propagation of the Christian religion.
Career Title: Minister of Faith-Centered Education – 4K-8
Purpose: The Minister of Faith-Centered Education plays a formative role in the spiritual lives of his or her students. The Minister of Faith-Centered Education shall lead and guide students to learn about Christian living, attitudes, skills, and subject matter, for the development of each student and contribute to their development as mature and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God.
Contracted by: School Board upon recommendation of the Administrator for one year.
Responsible to: Administrator
Supervises: May supervise student teachers, aides, and volunteers.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel and this job description.
Starting Salary Range (Exempt Position):
$36,000 - $45,000 depending on degree and experience. This is an overtime “exempt” position; the primary duty of the position is exercising discretion and judgment in connection with teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing, in the activity of imparting knowledge within an educational establishment.
Prerequisites - Christian Leadership
The Minister of Faith-Centered Education shall, as a condition of his/her at-will employment:
- Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior.
- Believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
- Adhere to, and profess, biblical standards of human sexuality [e.g., governing sexual orientation, gender identity] and marriage [between one man and one woman], as established through scripture [Gen. 1:27, 2:24-25; Ex. 20:14, 17, 22:19; Lev. 18:22-23, 20:13, 15-16; Deut. 22:5, Matt. 19:4-6, 9; Rom. 1:18-31; I Cor. 6:9-10, 15-20; I Tim. 1:8-11; Jude 7].
- Agree without reservation with the school’s Statement of Faith
- Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward others.
- Be a member in good standing at a local, evangelical church that has a Statement of Faith in agreement with the school's Statement of Faith.
- Show by example the importance of Bible study, daily prayer, evangelism, discipleship, and unity in the Body of Christ.
- Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to “train up a child in the way he should go.” Proverbs 22:6.

Core Responsibilities as Member of Ministry Team and Classroom Teacher
The Minister of Faith-Centered Education shall, in furtherance of the school’s mission to guide students in the identification and development of their spiritual gifts and scholastic talents, and empower students to explore and utilize their God-given creativity:
- Reflect the purpose of the school which is to honor Christ in every class and in every activity.
- Share with students God’s gift of salvation and help each student grow in their understanding of the Bible and in their faith.
- Encourage students to find their identity and self-worth in Christ.
- Cooperate with the Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
- Teach classes as assigned following prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the administration.
- Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
- Keep proper discipline at all times for a good learning environment.
- Lead students in daily prayer and through devotions.
- Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom.
- Plan broadly through the use of a Lesson Plan Book or electronic files.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do his/her best work.
- Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school's mission, vision, and values.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies and materials that will provide for creative teaching to educate the whole child: spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and social.
- Plan through approved channels the balanced classroom use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
- Assess the learning of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Report accurate attendance and maintain regular/accurate and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress.
- Keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of concerns.
- Represent the school favorably and professionally to the school’s constituency and the general public.
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with kindness, dignity, and consideration.
- Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with conflict with students, parents, staff, and administration.
- Be open to constructive criticism while maintaining a teachable attitude.
- Attend and participate in scheduled devotional times, in-service meetings, professional learning opportunities, retreats, relevant school events/extracurricular activities, committee, and faculty meetings, and ongoing spiritual formation opportunities.
- Know the procedures for dealing with issues in an emergency.
- Inform the administration promptly if unable to fulfill any duty assigned. Prepare adequate information and materials for a substitute teacher.
- Act as an ambassador to the surrounding community through conveying the organization’s mission and Christian faith to outside organizations.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
